The long-awaited trailer for the Jacob’s Ladder remake has arrived—and it promises more demons than angels.
Directed by David M. Rosenthal and written by Jeff Buhler (The Prodigy, Pet Sematary) and Sarah Thorpe, the film follows Jacob Singer, a man who believes his brother was killed in combat in Afghanistan. But when he discovers that his brother is in fact alive and living in an underground shelter, Jacob’s life is turned upside down.
Tim Robbins played Jacob Singer in 1990 original, which is widely considered to be one of the best horror films of the decade. Michael Ealy (The Intruder) is filling Robbins’ shoes in the remake, starring alongside Jesse Williams (The Cabin in the Woods), Nicole Beharie (Black Mirror), and Karla Souza (How to Get Away with Murder).
While the remake looks like it will take the story in a new direction, the trailer does hit some familiar beats, from ice-filled bathtubs to creepy subway stations to demonic visions. The film is being released by Vertical Entertainment and will premiere on the DISH Network in an exclusive July window before hitting theatres on August 23rd.
