Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Pushing Daisies) is directing a new take on Stephen King’s Christine for Blumhouse and Sony!
Published in 1983, the novel Christine follows a shy teen who purchases a 1958 Plymouth Fury to fix up, which he names Christine. As he develops an unhealthy obsession with the car, it soon becomes clear that Christine has a penchant for murder.
Deadline notes that Fuller intends to keep the film “in an ’80s time period and grounded in King’s bestseller.” Fuller will also reportedly be writing the movie, which marks the second King adaptation he’s had a hand in. Previously, he wrote the teleplay for the 2002 TV movie Carrie, which starred Angela Bettis in the titular role. In our interview with Fuller back in 2017, he noted that he wasn’t entirely happy with that adaptation and would love to do another “knowing what I know now,” so we’re thrilled to see him getting that chance.
Vincenzo Natali, who directed multiple episodes of Hannibal, is serving as a producer on the film alongside Jason Blum and Steven Hoban. King’s novel was previously adapted for the big screen in the same year it was released, with John Carpenter at the helm.
