We’ve known for some time that a new Exorcist film was in the works, with David Gordon Green (Halloween, Halloween Kills) reportedly set to direct. That rumour has now been confirmed, bringing with it a surprising twist: Universal Pictures and Peacock have in fact paid more than $400 million to buy a whole new Exorcist trilogy!
Green will be directing the first film in the trilogy, which will star Leslie Odom Jr. (Hamilton, Murder on the Orient Express) as the father of a possessed child. Desperate for help, he tracks down Chris MacNeil, the mother of Regan, the little girl possessed in the 1973 original. And yes, Ellen Burstyn will reprise the role of Chris!
Blumhouse and Morgan Creek Entertainment are producing the trilogy, with the first installment set to release theatrically on October 13th, 2023. This will be the first time that an Exorcist film has hit the big screen since the release of Dominion: Prequel to The Exorcist in 2005.
