With Cinema-Con this past week, there’s been a plethora of news, release date changes, and new footage shown. Historically, it’s unusual to see any of the clips or trailers appear online officially for some weeks or months.
However, this year we had quite the surprise! Whilst presenting their slate at the convention, Universal Pictures simultaneously uploaded the first trailer for Speak No Evil to their YouTube page.
The movie, an English-language remake of the Danish-Dutch movie of the same name, stars James McAvoy and Mackenzie Davis. The plot centres around two couples who meet on vacation, and McAvoy invites the other family to come stay with them. However, things slowly start to take a sinister turn for the unsuspecting family, their hosts becoming more menacing and aggressive with the passage of time.
Unsurprisingly, McAvoy steals the show in the trailer, bringing the same threat, menace, and intensity to Speak No Evil that he possessed in 2017’s Split. Aisling Franciosi is equally unnerving as McAvoy’s Stepford-like wife Ciara.
The excellently edited clip gets the adrenaline pumping with quick cuts, only hinting at how chaotic Speak No Evil will become… In one final haunting moment, we witness McAvoy’s son with his mouth agape in a mute scream. The young boy then makes a scissoring motion before his face, suggesting his parents have cut out his tongue…
Horrifying stuff, indeed. Speak No Evil will release on September 13th 2024, and we’re intrigued to see how it fares. Check out the trailer below:
