It’s been a long time coming, but we finally have our first look at Gary Dauberman’s troubled reboot of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot.
In a plethora of newly-released images, we get a detailed look at the movie’s cast and setting, with an undeniable atmosphere of dread emanating from each picture.
Each principal cast member is glimpsed at least once, including Top Gun: Maverick star Lewis Pullman as Ben Mears. Pullman is joined on-screen by Makenzie Lee as Susan Norton, Jordan Preston Carter as Mark Petrie, Alfre Woodard as Dr. Cody, and John Benjamin Hickey as Father Callahan.
This is the first we have heard from this long-in-gestation reboot since the announcement the film would debut on streaming service Max. Whilst this was disappointing news, it wasn’t unexpected, as the adaption had sat on the shelf for over two years.
Many have speculated that the direct-to-streaming decision signalled a lack of faith in the film from Warner Bros. However, author Stephen King’s vocal praise after seeing a rough-cut flies in the face of this.
We will likely never know why this adaption hit a sour note with executives, but what we can be sure of is that it’s finally being released.
Alongside the new images came the confirmation that Salem’s Lot will debut on Max this October, just in time for Halloween! Furthermore, the film will receive a limited theatrical run in the UK and Ireland, beginning October 11th.
Written and directed by The Conjuring Universe alum Gary Dauberman, the 2025 version of Salem’s Lot will be the third screen adaption of Stephen King’s classic novel. The first being the 1979 TV miniseries directed by Tobe Hooper and starring David Soul. This was followed by another television adaption in 2004, with Rob Lowe leading the cast.
How will this new adaption stack up against previous attempts? Thankfully we don’t have to wait long to find out.
