Unbelievably, it’s been four years since Paramount gave us a remake of their 1989 adaption of Stephen King’s novel. Although the movie was mildly received by critics, it did earn praise for subverting expectations and crossed that coveted $100 million mark at the worldwide box-office.
Talks of another movie began almost immediately, with the producers expressing interest in a prequel that would explore the history of Jud Crandall and the evil associated with the titular burial ground. Although the project was greenlit in 2021, things remained quiet besides some key casting announcements… Until now.
On July 19th Paramount Pictures unveiled the first poster and some exclusive first-look stills for Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, and we must say, it looks rather promising.
The cast includes the likes of The Revenant’s Forrest Goldluck, Natalie Alyn Lind of The Goldberg’s, and Jack Mulhern, who recently starred opposite Kate Winslet in Mare of Easttown. The prequel has also attracted familiar faces like E.T. star Henry Thomas, The X-Files’s David Duchovny and Foxy Brown actress Pam Grier.
Marking the directorial debut of filmmaker Lindsey Anderson Beer, Bloodlines sees the director also tackle writing duties with Jeff Buhler. The project was overseen by producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian for a Paramount+ collection of streaming original horror films, creatively titled Peak Screaming.
Pet Sematary: Bloodlines is described as follows:
“In 1969, a young Jud Crandall has dreams of leaving his hometown of Ludlow, Maine behind, but soon discovers sinister secrets buried within and is forced to confront a dark family history that will forever keep him connected to Ludlow. Banding together, Jud and his childhood friends must fight an ancient evil that has gripped Ludlow since its founding, and once unearthed has the power to destroy everything in its path.”
The film will release on Paramount+ in North America, Latin America, Canada, and Brazil on Friday October 6th 2023. Saturday October 7th will see Bloodlines released to all international territories. Check out the exclusive first look images and be sure to add this promising prequel to your Halloween watch list!
