The CW Network had already filmed a pilot episode for a new TV series based on 1987’s teen vampire classic The Lost Boys, but they decided to scrap it altogether and start fresh, even recasting all but two of the actors (Medalion Rahimi and Dakota Shapiro). Now executive producer Rob Thomas has confirmed that the retooled pilot will begin filming this autumn.
Thomas also noted that writer Heather Mitchell is rewriting about 40% of the script, saying it will have more in common with the original film than the “outside-the-box” pilot he himself wrote two years ago. The story centres around two brothers arriving in a California beach town with a serious vampire infestation.
Mitchell, Dan Etheridge, Mike Karz, and Bill Bindley will executive produce the series alongside Thomas, with Rebecca Frank and Juliana Janes serving as producers.
