Share & Splatter More Blood Around

It’s hard to believe, but Return of the Living Dead is now 38 years old! The 1985 cult classic horror-comedy has garnered a slew of fans over the years and accumulated four sequels. Beginning in 1988, Dan O’Bannon’s creation became a franchise with Return of the Living Dead Part II. Whilst not warmly received by critics or lighting up the box-office, like the original, it has gone on to attain cult status over the years. The same goes of 1992’s Return of the Living Dead III, with many fans naming it as their favourite in the series.

The series would lie dormant for 13 years before filmmaker Brian Yuzna brought us two SyFy original movies for the fourth and fifth entries. These movies were… poorly received by fans and critics alike, to say the least, and put the franchise on ice for the last 18 years.

However, that may all be about to change!

Living Dead Media, the official home of the franchise, has announced something is in the works from Muck and Kill Her Goats director Steve Wolsh. Stated to be a reboot as opposed to a remake, the project seeks not to ignore any of the past entries, but expand upon the world they exist in.

As per Living Dead Media’s website:
“Our reboot of Return of the Living Dead will expand the existing world created by the original 5 films, while staying true to the R-rated, sci-fi, horror, dark comedy roots adored by fans of the cult classic around the world for the last 35 years. We are excited to resurrect this storied franchise for current fans and new generations of zombie fans.”

So, are the dead set to rise once more for the ultimate graveyard party? Hopefully time will tell, and hopefully we get to see some familiar faces. We’ll keep you posted on any further developments.
